The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in Chattanooga Tennessee is responsible for oversight of numerous reservoirs, dams, and fossil and nuclear power plants throughout the state.  The TVA, which has operated since 1933, provides power to approximately 8.5 million customers in Tennessee.

Unfortunately, many of the fossil plants operated by TVA are known sites of potential asbestos exposure.  Asbestos exposure in the workplace of any of these plants can cause serious and even fatal health problems, including an aggressive type of cancer called mesothelioma. (more…)

Tennessee residents who have worked and lived in and around the Kingston Fossil Plant, commonly known as the Kingston Steam Plant, are at an increased risk of exposure to asbestos, which could lead to serious health problems including the deadly cancer mesothelioma.

The Kingston Steam Plant, located on the Watts Bar Reservoir of the Tennessee River, is a large coal-burning power plant.  In fact, it was the largest power plant of its kind when its construction was completed 1955. (more…)

The Johnsonville Fossil Plant, also known as the Johnsonville Steam Plant, is one of over 100 sites in Tennessee that are known to pose the risk of asbestos exposure.  Asbestos is a fibrous material that has been used extensively in industrial operations, including energy plant operations.

The Dupont Chemical Plant in Memphis, Tennessee is one of 162 sites in Tennessee known to have asbestos contamination.  Asbestos is a fibrous material used in many commercial and industrial operations.  When the invisible fibers of this substance become airborne, workers and others can inhale or ingest them, which can lead to serious health problems.

Exposure to asbestos at the Dupont Chemical Plant in Memphis may not cause health problems immediately.  In fact, many asbestos-related diseases do not present any symptoms for years, if not decades, following asbestos exposure.  Mesothelioma is the most serious asbestos disease, which often remains latent for up to 50 years before becoming symptomatic.
